We are actively looking for talented and ambitious people to join the lab !

Immunogenomic profiling of clinical tumor samples

What do we do?

The overall goal is to discover how the tumor cells evade the immune system in ovarian cancer, with prospects of leading to major scientific breakthroughs and successful translation of the findings into clinical trials.

We aim to integrate genomic profiles (WES, shallow WGS, ctDNA, RNAseq), and single-cell spatial proteomic data (tCycIF; www.cycif.org) and associate the findings to clinical data.

Developing your skills

What do we offer?

The researcher will be immersed in the rich interdisciplinary culture of the research program. We offer excellent training and coaching towards an ambitious career. Our mentality is to maintain a highly collaborative and enthusiastic atmosphere in the Lab and exploit the rich international scientific networks.

A monthly salary and benefits according to the Helsinki University standards will be applied.

Cutting-edge genomics and image analysis platforms

Interpreting results in clinical cancer samples

Developing new approaches for analyzing single-cell spatial proteomic and transcriptomic data

Rich collaborative atmosphere

Working with
patient-derived
tumor and immune cells

Contributing to personalized treatments in ovarian cancer

The projects are highly translational efforts with international collaborators such as the Netherlands Cancer Institute or Harvard Medical School. We are also a part of the Ludwig Tumor Atlas and Nordic Society of Gynecological Oncology

What is expected from you?

The successful candidate will be expected to lead independent projects and also collaborate and contribute to the common activities in Färkkilä Lab

Position is full time, and the hours will vary according to the project to meet deadlines to achieve project goals. Starting to work part-time as an intern is also possible.

Looking for applicants from all levels

Are you looking for an image analysis project leveraging multi-comics single- cell spatial data
to apply and develop cutting-edge spatial analysis methods?
Would you prefer working in the wet lab developing HGSC patient-derived immunocompetent cultures?

In Färkkilä lab you have both options to uncover new biology and really make an impact in science and clinics

PhD students

We are looking for motivated applicants who wish to research tumor microenvironment dynamics in ovarian cancer, in a lab with a highly translational approach.

Depending on the nature of the projects, the applicant must be able to plan and conduct experiments independently and/or have an advanced level and experience in data analysis. This means that previous wet-lab experience is required for experimental projects. Coding skills in R/Matlab/Python are indispensable for bioinformatics and data science projects, but also very much appreciated for wet-lab applicants.

Basic knowledge and interest in cancer biology and immunology are necessary. The candidate should have excellent written and spoken English skills. The successful candidate will be expected to lead projects, collaborate, and contribute to the activities in the Färkkilä Lab.

Post-docs

We are looking for an ambitious postdoc who is proficient in R/Matlab/Python, biostatistics/bioinformatics, and preferably have prior experience in Image processing&analysis or single cell data analysis.

The successful candidate will be involved in image analysis projects leveraging multi-comics single- cell spatial data to apply and develop cutting-edge spatial analysis.

The candidate is expected to lead independent projects, collaborate, and contribute to the common activities in the Färkkilä Lab. Basic knowledge and interest in cancer biology and immunology are necessary. The candidate should have excellent written and spoken English skills.
